Le Cafe Michi [Japanese/Cafe]

Have been hearing raves about this place for a while but have never been although being so close by, we did finally drop by during summer and it was closed for renovation. Then at the end of August we finally made in to Le Cafe Michi after all these years.

Love all the cake display when we walk in.

Seaweed Salad & Chef's Salad that came with the meal/combo

Cafe au lait Chirashi $36.95
~ the price include salad, a slice of cake & tea/coffee
The sashimi was fresh and delicious but I find it a bit pricey compare to my other favorite places but it's the perfect solution to fix my chirashi craving without heading downtown.

Emerson [Candian/Bistro]

A friend have been raving about Emerson (@EmersonToronto) for a while now and saw how packed it was when I passed by when I had dinner a few door down at The Whippoorwill here. We made reservation for a Saturday night and we arrive at a pack space with a very casual crowd including family gathering with kids.

I actually love the space with all the random objects as if a antique shop turn into a restaurant at night. The space was also rather large and go all the way to a back room which you can't even see from the picture below.

A small open kitchen by the bar which throw out dishes at an alarming speed.

La Chamiza, Malbec $55

Fried Sweetbread Poutine $9
Love everything from the light battered sweetbread to the gravy which was the perfect consistency and flavor to the bits of cheese curds.

ESÉ antojitos by Toronto Popup [EVENT]

Went to Toronto Popup (@Toronto_PopUp) dinner featuring ESÉ (@ESEsuavecito) a few weeks ago. This is the 2nd event I went to by Toronto Popup and I like it just as much as the 1st; seats are limited so make sure to follow them on twitter for their next event.

It's a five course dinner at $40pp with optional wine or beer pairings evolve around Mexican small plates / antojitos which means little cravings.

Peter & Ryan, the duo behind the L.A. style Mexican popup ESÉ.

Arpège Egg
~ Coddled yolk, housemade chorizo, goat cheese mash, tortilla spear
This was the reason why I bought the tickets to this event as soon as I heard about it after trying and loving it at The Stop's Night Market here. It was just as good as I remember with all the layers of flavors and textures; just wished I had more than one. My fave dish of the night (^_^)

Poutine Con Yuca
~ Yucca frites, beef brisket, ancho, huitacoche gravy, queso
A more starchy and drier texture than your regular potato, it was topped with tender beef brisket but wished it had some sort of sauce to it and some sort of pop/contrast of flavor.

isn't this so pretty.

Linda Modern Thai ~ Thai Select [EVENT]

I was one of the lucky one who got invited to Linda Modern Thai (@LindaModernThai) to celebrate their recent Thai Select Premium Status.

Thai Select Or Thai Select Premium certification identifies Thai restaurant that offer at least 60% authentic Thai foods on their menus. They also imply that these restaurants employ the same or similar cooking methods as in Thailand, and may import ingredient from Thailand.

And currently the Thai Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and Thailand's Ministry of Commerce agency is launching a marketing campaign in support of the launch of it's Thai Select Cuisine program to the Canadian Market through print, website, social media and special events.

In Canada there are currently only 4 Thai restaurants awarded this high designation.

 Mieng Kum
~ Linda's signature appetizer, meaning "many things in one bite"
I had this the last time I was at Linda and I have to say I never had this before then although I had my share of Thai food in my life time. All you need to do is pick up a leave, put a bit of everything on it and wrap it up and eat.
