Sassafraz (Winterlicious #4)

Winterlicious 2011 #4 Dinner at Sassafraz was a lot better than I've expected. I remember I went there for Valentine's day a few years ago and the even with reservation we had to wait for over half hour in the freezing cold and we only got a table at cafe/bar side which was totally a different atmosphere with super crowded seating and the food was really average. But a lot of my friends raves about Sassafraz, so I was willing to give it one more chance especially for $45 Winterlicious....

This time we did get our table at the dinning area and the atmosphere was much more romantic which was better for our date =)

Shrimp Tamale with Roasted Poblano Chili Sauce
At first glance, I thought this was horrible looking and regretted ordering this at once.
This actually tasted much better than it looks, the Tamale was super soft and moist with a very flavorful sauce but there's barely any shrimp in it.

Potato and celeriac Soup with Truffle Beurre Noissette
I guess anything that have Truffle in it taste good.

Duck Cassoulet with Confit of Duck, Braised Lamb, Wild Boar Sausage & Flageolet Beans
Soft, fall of the bone good and the beans was perfect although the sausage was really average with no texture no real taste

Wild Mushroom Stuffed Cornish Hen with Red Quinoa and Winter Vegetables
Some of you may know my no chicken at non-Chinese restaurant, but me & Ben was willing to try for once since it's a Cornish Hen. This was so good, super moist, super flavorful with great stuffing. It's the first time eating quinoa (the red rice looking at the bottom) and I really like it and it taste like Chinese "purple rice" (紫米), really really liked it.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, this is my fave dish of the night ♥

Chocolate Pave with Passionfruit sherbet and Rosewater Gelee
The chocolate pave was obviously great but I ♥ the Passionfruit sherbet and that was the main reason I choose this dessert
But the gelee was really mild tasting and tasteless together with the pave or the sherbet.

Gotham City Cheese: Ice Wine Washed Rind Made from Pasteurized Cow's Milk with Fresh Fruits and Garnishes
Great Cheese, goes perfect with the dried fruits

Verdict:
Great Food, Great Service, Great Date
