ORO

Got a Groupon for Oro early on to use when Dad comes over since I've heard that they have pretty good fish dishes and my dad loves fish =D We went about a month
ago, the first week he was here and it was a good start to his food adventure here. I was surprised that it was actually next to one of my favorite pub, Queen and Beaver from here and have never noticed this place before. As I enter the place, I was surprise at how packed it was but was skeptical since they had a rather dated decor =P

Fresh yummy flavorful Bread

A very well priced $40 Cab-Sau recommended by the waiter, it was so-so

Scallop & Sweet Shrimp Ceviche
~ Citrus, Serrano Chili, red Onion, Jicama & coriander
It was too sour and the seafood was a bit tough, probably overcook in the citrus marinade >_<

Salumi Board
I'll have to say it really not that bad for $15.95, the huge portion was enough for the 3 of us to share. Can't really compare to places like Black Hoof or Local Kitchen but acceptable especially compare to the $14.95 we had to pay for the horrible Ceviche above

Herb-Crusted Ontario Lamb Loin
~ Israeli Couscous, Heirloom Carrots & Braised Pearl onions
The star of this dish was the Israeli Couscous which is also called Ptitim which is an Israeli toasted pasta shaped like little balls. It's nothing like your regular couscous and it was my first time I ever had this and I loved it, extra yummy with the lamb jus =D
The lamb itself was well cook, moist, crispy exterior and very flavorful.

 Yogurt Marinated Quebec Artisanal Chicken
~ Lemon roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Spring Vegetable Salad, Local Ontario Feta & Kalamata Olive.
After our great experience with Chicken here and here, Ben wanted to try his luck once again....
and what a disappointment (>_<) Not was it not appetizing visually, it was also dry, rubber like dry and tasteless if not for the slight flavor from the sauce on top.

Lake Erie Pickerel
~ Moroccan Couscous, Toasted Almonds, Grilled Zucchini & Sweet Corn
This was a rather large portion and the fish was grilled to perfection with charred flavorful outside and super moist inside. Fish dishes tends to be overcook most of the time at most places but this was perfect. The flavor was light and perfect, just a light herbs rub on the outside letting the fish flavor shine through while the couscous was light and airy, very lightly seasoned hich goes well with the equally sweet yummy fish. Good thing Dad's dish was good since I really didn't want to disappoint him on our first night out =P

Verdict :
The fish dish was really good but I wouldn't see myself going back anytime soon.
Service was lacking to our table, the waiter was in a rush to leave every time... but he seems much more attentive to the other table he was serving (O_o)?, maybe because we are Chinese ?!?

  4. I'm not pulling anything... I'm just saying that the service wasn't as good compare to what the other table got =( and the only difference I notice was that we were Chinese since we were the only Chinese table that night

  5. I've been to ORO several times and not only has the food been impeccable (including the ceviche), but so has the service. Between the host, the bartender and our server, each was helpful, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It's unfortunate you had the experience you claim to have had, but it seems rather presumptuous to assume it's because your party was Chinese, especially since the wait staff is rather mutli-cultural in itself.
